Dog Walking

Depending on your dog's breed, nature, daily routine and general health, daily walks are necessary to ensure the physical and mental stimulation your dog requires. Lack of this stimulation could cause various behavioural problems, for instance non stop barking, pacing, agression or depressed behaviour. Even a walk around the block to allow your dog to get the daily (pe)e-mails helps.

When your work life just doesn't allow for daily walks, getting a professional to walk your dog between 1 - 7 times a week is a very good option to ensure your dog gets the necessary physical and mental stimulation. Be careful when booking a dog walker - we have all read horror stories on social media about dogs being kicked or being shouted at while being walked. It is important that your dog walker has some training or experience working with animals. Bubble and Squeak offers dog walking services: Kelly Johnston will fetch your dog(s) and take them to the nearest nature area for a 30 - 45 minute walk. Kelly is a professional animal groomer with 5 years' experience. She has also completed two certificates in dog behaviour, knows how to deal with medical emergencies and is currently busy with an advanced diploma in animal behaviour. House Sitting

When you and your family go away for a few days or a few weeks, the question to ask is whether to book your furry children into a kennel or cattery, and if so, which one? Some of these facilities are top class and you might even get an email while you are away "from your furry", with a picture showing them having fun at the kennel or cattery. Others however, have a rather bad reputation. The good ones are also booked months in advance. No matter how good a kennel or cattery is, sometimes these are just not the right option for your furry. Being away from home and family all at once could just be too stressful.

So, if a kennel or cattery is not an option for whatever reason, what options are left? Housesitting is becoming an option that more and more people turn to. Animals left at home feel safe in their known environment and you have someone checking in regularly on your house. Housesitting can be a once or twice a day check-in, or a sleepover.

If you decide on house-sitting as an option, it is always a good idea to arrange a "caretaking" visit or two before you leave so that the animals and housesitter can get comfortable with each other. Bubble and Squeak offers house-sitting services and if we are fully booked, we can refer you to someone that we can vouch for.

Finding the best sitter for the pet left behind

For many pet owners, planning a vacation includes deciding who will take care of the four-footed friend left at home. Do you ask a neighbor or friend, board him at a kennel, or hire a professional pet sitter?

All are viable choices, but frame your decision by thinking of the animal's needs first, says Inga Fricke, director of sheltering and pet care issues for the Humane Society of the United States (humanesociety.org).
